Welcome

This tutorial is brought to you by the Academy School District 20 IT-ES Team as a professional development program. It is being funded by a NCLB Mini-Grant, “20 in the 21st: Web 2.0 in the Classroom.” This module is designed for you to do on your own or you may choose to meet together as a team within your school to work on the various tasks. You can obtain a Management/Users Guide by clicking on the ABOUT section. On the following pages, you will encounter the tools of the new Internet: Web 2.0 tools that are bringing our kids in touch with the entire world through social networking, video, audio, and gaming sites. The ITE-ES Team encourages you to take time to explore and enjoy all the tools of this new Internet. Read on! For this tutorial, there are 20 Things for you to complete. Each Thing will show you one more web tool. There are many places for you to explore, experiment with, and think about creative ways to use 2.0 tools in your classroom.

Each week begins with a brief explanation of a new web 2.0 topic, followed by Discovery Exercises. These exercises give you the background you need to understand the tools you’re learning about. Don’t skip them! After the Discovery Exercises, you’ll find a Thing — activity — to complete.

After each Thing you will write about the experience on the blog you will create. In other words, you will comment or “post” to your online log (Blog.) Think of this blog as a journal to reflect on your learning. You will learn how to set up a blog in our first face-to-face meeting. This is a tool to communicate your thoughts, new found skills, ideas, questions, and favorite websites. You’ll receive feedback and encouragement from other participants. In turn, you will provide feedback and encouragement to others. It’s your space! The links on the Information Page will take you to each week’s specific lesson.

    Week #4 Thing #9
Del.icio.us would be a valuable research tool to use with students. I posted an online dictionary entit led wordreference.com My tag is Mmedico I use this almost every day. I did find a bookmark for “ePals” that I am going to investigate for possible use in my French classes.

The above URL is a free comic book page that has a CC license and is thus free for me to use with my students. I will have them create in French a heading that will be a future story starter for a project they will produce. This is of great help to me to not have to design such a page myself, instead using someone else’s creative abilities for my benefit (and it’s all legal).
I also listened to STeve H’s video on the 2.0 Classroom. His comment about the novel being not for educational purposes was telling. As educators it appears it is once again time to take the leap (hasn’t happened since the invention of the TV)and move into the 21st century. Our classrooms are filled with technologically savvy students who know more about the digital world than I do. Maybe we can foster a learning environment where teachers and students maneuver through the pathways of learning together.

    Nancy,
I have several questions. Is the meeting at Heritage in Littleton a continuation on a larger scale of what you and some of the casl members got together and looked at web 2.0.

I like what you have done here – can I set something up
similar for my district. I am exploring using Igoogle tools more, have you used that platform of different tools much?

Explain word press? edublogs? I thought they were the same.

Last, I don’t know how to create a librarything “recommended books” list to appear in my webpage. I am using google sites
and I’m not sure how? Any ideas? Oh, by the way – happy holidays.
